Friday Randoms

This feels like the longest week ever! So happy it's Friday. Here's what I have been up to (and let me tell you, it's exciting!)

After three years together, my favorite curling iron finally gave up on me. It's been trying to go peacefully for weeks but EH kept fixing it and we kept trucking along. It became tiresome having to fix it mid-way through every morning so I broke down an ordered 2.0.

It's so shiny and gold and perfectly accents my gold ribbon tiles, don't you think?

What IS holding up surprisingly well is my shellac manicure from last weekend. It's Bastille My Heart by OPI and I love the color.

Thursday night I accompanied a friend to the Arkansas Business of the Year Awards. It was freezing out which limits my cocktail attire so I settled on this leather sheath from Anthropologie that I've had forever and never worn. Don't mind the messy closet.

Or the oddly serious facial expression?

The night was fun and ended pretty early which is nice on a work night. Now it's the weekend and I'm ready for a nap.

Little Rock Snow Day

On Monday we had what I felt was our first official snow day. The snowfall was heavy and immediately started to accumulate which of course means the entire area basically shuts down.

This only happens maybe once or twice a year though so what can you expect? I happen to love it, especially when it cuts my work day a little short.

Moose likes it too I think.

I love that little paw. Also isn't our neighbors totally subtle, non-intrusive fence just lovely? My favorite. 8 feet is clearly not enough.

I like it almost as much as the iron pelican there. We've got some yard work to do this spring I think.

Moose doesn't notice such trivial things - he focuses on the snow alone.

Tiny paw print in the snow. My little heart melts. This one was my favorite, a repeat if you follow me on instagram.

Oh my goodness, that face. I've now made it my cell phone and ipad wallpaper as well as my desktop and I might just have to print it out too.

This guy's pretty cute as well! Exploring the road after work.

We didn't get a chance to build a snowman or sled, but it was a pretty great snow day nonetheless.

Hope you are staying warm wherever you are!

Weekend Happenings - Sushi & Beer

This has been a strange week - yesterday we were sent home early because of snow, we started late today, and potentially could start late or leave early tomorrow. Arkansas weather, man.

Since this past weekend was relatively mild, EH and I took advantage and got out of the house.

Moose was content to hold the fort down.

Friday night we ventured to one of our favorite sushi spots - Kiyen's. Never really crowded which is always surprising but sometimes favorable none the less when you want great sushi without having to wait or make a reservation.

We usually order three rolls, one of which I require comes on fire. Here is the Master:

Next was the Playboy.

And finally the Chili Thai.

All three were delicious! There are other great sushi places in Little Rock but if you haven't already I would definitely not overlook Kiyen's.

Saturday was rainy and cold which always makes me want to eat warm food and have a drink. Does rainy weather do that to you? No?

We popped into another of our newest go-to's that I can't quit raving about - Lost Forty. We settled in and started with their hummus - spicier and more flavorful than most with toasted bread, celery, pickled carrots and pickled cauliflower.

For our drinks we tried their newest creation - Bourbon Barrel-Aged Honey Bock. Their Honey Bock is easily both of our favorites but this version was extra special.

For lunch, I went with their turkey sandwich. I wish I remembered all the details but it was warm and melty and delicious and surely that's enough to convince you to try it?

But the real show stopper was the brisket. Oh my gosh, this brisket y'all.

We've tried several times to order this plate and they were always out of everything, but this time we lucked out. EH asked our waitress as we sat down if she would set aside an order for him. It is just..delicious. What the word delicious was invented for.

We rounded out our lunch with another round - the Stout for him and the Rock Candy Abbey for me.

After several rounds and such great food, we were pretty worthless the rest of our Saturday which was fine by me. On Sunday we headed down to EH's hometown for lunch and an early dinner with family before heading back to Little Rock before the bad weather set in.

Are local breweries popping up in your area? Are you experiencing crazy winter weather? I hope it's a yes to the first and a no to the second!

Stay warm and drink beer, friends!

A Few Random Favorites

We're on the downhill slope to the weekend! I've been on a bit of an online shopping and app downloading binge lately with being cooped inside the  majority of the time and thought I'd share a few of my new favorites.

Bear with me, they are pretty random!

First is Too Faced Brow Envy Shaping Kit:

My best friend Kitty has had this kit and any time we were together I would sneak it out of her make-up bag to borrow. I finally sucked it up after years without it and this is a game changer. So thanks Kitty! I owe you your next kit!

Jumping to the next, after giving up on Candy Crush but still itching for a new game to pass the time occasionally, I found Shades.

I've gotten a lot further along than level 182 (I promise!) but wanted to grab a quick screenshot. It's sort of like Tetris where you stack the different color blocks until they become the darkest color. It's somewhat soothing and stressful at the same time.

Moving back into beauty products - I'm really loving Batiste Dry Shampoo for Brunettes.

I wash, blow-dry and curl my hair almost every single day. Aaaand get my hair cut maybe 2-3 times a year. I'm trying to remedy that, and save myself some time in the morning. Batiste has helped me with this. I've usually shied away because dry shampoos left a white residue unless I crazy rubbed it in, but this stuff is made just for brunettes. Plus the scent makes your hair smell clean as opposed to smelling like a scent that is just covering your dirty hair. You can't febreze your hair people.

Well, I guess you can but I don't think that you should.

And finally, something for the home. I felt fancy at Target one day (lol.) and purchased their Caldrea Collection hand soap. The bottle is so much prettier than the usual $1-3 plastic pump bottle I buy, and the scents are really nice but not overpowering.

Have you found a new random product that you're digging? I'd love to hear about it!

Hope everyone is staying warm and happy! Spring is bound to get here soon, right?

The Highs and Lows of Arkansas

On Valentine's Day we were graced with perfect weather - 70's, abundant sunshine and very little wind. A perfect day for a little day drinking.

We started out at Dugan's Irish Pub - a favorite in downtown Little Rock. Great hearty food - we selected gorganzola cheese dip, fish and chips for EH, and a BLT with a fried egg for me. A friend met us and picked Bangers and Mash. Plus! They had one of our favorite local brews on tap - the Lost Forty Honey Bock.

After lunch, we met another friend at another new brewery - Blue Canoe Brewing Company

A narrow bar with friendly staff and a huge open window at the front. They are dog friendly - we hung out with Brazil again! And the environment lends itself for chatting with strangers.

My favorite was the Pilsner but every beer we tried was good.

The rest of our Valentine's Day was spent in comfy clothes watching movies and catching up on our DVR. A perfect Holiday if you ask me!

Sunday we met friends for brunch. Isn't brunch wonderful? Look at this bloody mary from US Pizza.

Man, do I love a great bloody mary.

After a quick grocery store trip, we settled in again for the new Walking Dead episode and a night of freezing rain/sleet/little bit of snow. Which of course means the state shuts down which is fine! Because Snow Day.

EH was able to sleep in and I was granted the entire day off so more movie marathons were in order and I caught up on the Bachelor. No shame whatsoever.

Moose really enjoys this weather. Especially when he is sporting a full body sweater because his humans haven't scheduled a hair cut. Woops.

The snow really does suit him.

We might have a small delay before work tomorrow but more than likely it will be business as usual. I love these weekends and random days off though - they sort of recharge you for the day-to-day grind.

For all of my Northeast Friends and anyone who is crazy over this weather, hang in there! Spring will hopefully be here before we all know it.

Valentine's Weekend

Another weekend has come and gone! This one was especially great - I love when Valentine's falls on a weekend!

Friday at work I was surprised with a dozen roses, hand delivered by EH. Spoiled, always.

We decided Friday night would be our big romantic night out. EH didn't disappoint - we headed to Cache which I have been wanting to try since they opened up. We started out with cocktails and a crab cake to share.

Terrible picture but trust me, it was delicious.

Cache had a set menu for Valentine's weekend but we were both very happy with our choices. I went with the pork chop (which is a surprising choice!).

Set on top of a pile of risotto and then topped with fresh green beans. It was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. So so good.

EH went with the filet and loaded baked potato.

The green beans were delicious and the baked potato was, y'know, a baked potato. But the steak? To die for. We were both seriously impressed.

We ended the night with strawberry cheesecake which perfectly rounded out our experience with Cache.

After dinner we headed to their lounge up stairs which was...interesting. We only stayed to finish our drinks but maybe it's better on a Non-Valentine's weekend? I'd be interested to hear if anyone else had been upstairs and what they thought.

Hope everyone had a Happy Valentine's Day! If you're like us or our friends in the Northeast - hope you stay warm and safe over the next few days!

Three Fold Noodles and Dumpling Co.

Over the last couple of years, Little Rock has really grown as far as dining choices. Not that there is anything wrong with a chain (looking at you Chili's Triple Dipper!), but there's something more exciting about eating local and unique.

One that EH and I have both been excited for was the Three Fold Noodles and Dumpling Co

So on a chilly Friday night we ventured out.

Set in an old bank building, it's a vintage but modern feel that  is pretty popular in the area lately. The old bank vault is still visible and the space is bright, open and airy.

The menu is simple as well - three entree options and the choice between chicken, pork, and vegetarian. Which is refreshing after going to a restaurant and having to choose from a 9 page menu.

We went with one order of dumplings (pork), and one bowl of noodles (chicken).

And the verdict is...it's all pretty good! Nice flavors, nothing overly complex, just the right amount of spice. No bar service which makes it more of a lunch venue in my mind, but we would definitely go back.

Have you been? Any fun new restaurants in your area?

New Look and Updates

Another weekend has blown by and EH and I have tried to take advantage of every bit of it. You may have noticed there has been some updating around here as well!

Nothing is done yet but I'm a do-it-all-right-now-er and also a do-it-bit-by-bit-er but hopefully everything is done and finished early this week. I hope you like it!

I have so much stuff to talk about, lots of small and big projects that I can't wait to share, so come back soon!

Also all of my words are pretty much spent - have you SEEN The Walking Dead premiere? Holy crap!
